Project Pulsar (Beta)

Adobe Project Pulsar (beta) is the first ever spatial video editor built to run natively on the Samsung Galaxy XR headset running Android XR. Project Pulsar provides a fast and unique way to turn video edits into experiences that drive engagement. Content creators can edit their videos or photos using real spatial depth and add layered cinematic effects, 3D elements and custom text.

Role

Product strategy, UI/UX design in collaboration with Kailin Zhu.

Design Goals

  • Enable creators to easily import, customize and export volumetric videos.
  • Follow recommended design guidelines from Google’s Android XR doumentation.
  • Provide a unique video editing experience while keeping controls and interactions familiar.

Challenges

  • Design for the brand new Android XR platform - Designing an app for a new OS and platform meant there were limitation and compromises.
  • Time constraints - Project Pulsar had a set release date to coincide with the launch of the new headset. This meant decisions needed to be made quick and goals had to be extra clear.
  • External partnership - Project Pulsar is in partnership with Google so communication and alignment is an ongoing process that ensures both companies benefit from the partnership.
